How to enrol students that login via SSO

Important: This document details how to enrol all students who log in via a given connection to specified courses. Alternatively, you can create specific links that, when clicked, will enrol a student in specific courses. Please see this document for further detail for creating links.

By default, when students use the Single Sign-On feature of Thinkific, they are only logged in and not enrolled. Therefore, some use cases exist where you want to log a student into Thinkific and enrol them in a course. In this example, we will fulful the following requirement:

• You are selling courses to a corporation, and they wish to use their SSO system. Every employee who logs in via their SSO system should be enrolled in a default set of courses in Thinkific.

Important

• You must be an administrator to set up auto enrollments
• Enrollment is an asynchronous process and may take up to 5 minutes to complete after a user signs in.
• If a user is already enrolled in a course, they will not be re-enrolled.

Open your SSO Connector dashboard and click Profile, then Backoffice

Click Applications, then choose the application you wish to enable auto enrollments for:

Scroll down and click Attach Product

Choose the course/bundle, and enter the days until the enrollment expires, e.g. 365 would expire the enrollment 1 year from the date of creation. For no expiry, leave blank or enter zero.

Click Attach, or if you wish to add more, click Attach & Attach Another

Set up is now complete, and any user who logs in via this application will be enrolled in the attached products.

Important:

• Previous log in's will not be enrolled, a user must go through the login process to commence the enrollment
• Removing a product from an application will not remove any enrollments that were previously created.
