What are Seats?

Seats are a core component of the B2B dashboard and control the access a Team has to products (Courses or Bundles) in Thinkific. For example, a seat will control:

  • The course or bundles a user can enroll their team members into.
  • The enrollments a user can see for a given student in their teams
  • The progress and activity reports a user can view for a given team.
  • When a user creates an enrollment, how long that student will have access for i.e. The expiry date for that course or bundle.
  • The maximum number of users that a team can enroll in a given course or bundle
  • If a team can modify or change the enrollment date of a user

Important Considerations

A team cannot be assigned multiple seats linked to the same course or bundle. For example, if you have a course called “Accounting 101,” you cannot create two separate seats, each assigned to “Accounting 101,” and assign both of these seats to the same team.

Thinkific is the system of record for all enrollments and in Thinkific, a user can only have one enrollment in a given course or bundle. Therefore, if a user is part of multiple teams in the B2B Dashboard, their enrolment in Thinkific may be assigned to multiple seats and thereby controlled by multiple teams.

  • If a user is enrolled by a seat which grants 1 year of access, but then modified by another seat which only grants 60 days of access, the new expiry date will be for the 60 days seat.
  • If a user purchases their own course or bundle seperately e.g. via the Thinkific checkout, and then is subsequently added to a B2B dashboard team at a later date e.g. Their company buys a seat package, their prior purchased enrollment will be counted in the used seats for that company.
