How can I add tax to my Thinkific sales?

Important – Please read the following carefully

  • WooNinja Invoices does not collect or remit tax and it is not tax compliance software. It simply adds a line item to each invoice that indicates the total tax for that invoice, based on the rate you enter. If you need advanced tax calculations, for example based on the user’s location or per course, we recommend Stripe Tax or Quaderno.
  • WooNinja Invoices calculates the tax amount as the total amount paid by a student multiplied by the supplied rate divided by 100. For example, a 13% rate on a a $100 purchase would be calculated as e.g. $100 x (13/100) = $13. By default, rounding is to two decimal places i.e. $9.543 would be rounded to $9.54
  • We strongly recommend that you consult with a local tax authority to determine your tax rate and associated financial obligations.

Worked Example

In the following example, a student has purchased a HR Onboarding Course for €10. They we given a discount of €8 (via a coupon code). The total amount they were charged to their card was €10 – €8 = €2. The tax rate is 21.5%. As they were charged a total of €2.00, the total tax is calculated from this value, and 21.5% of this value is €0.43.

To enable tax calculations, open your Settings, then scroll to System Settings

Toggle the Tax Enabled option, and enter a Tax Rate e.g. 13.5 for a tax rate of 13.5%. Don’t forget to click Save
